Dr. Prem Reddy is the founder, Chairman, and CEO of Prime Healthcare, as well as the founder of the Prime Healthcare Foundation and the Prem Reddy Family Foundation. His business acumen became evident in the early 1980s when he established healthcare entities during a challenging time for physicians.
In 1985, he formed Desert Valley Medical Group, followed by Primecare Medical Group Network in 1992, which he later sold to Phycor in 1998. Dr. Reddy also founded PrimeCare International, Inc., which at its peak served over 250,000 managed care patients and generated over $500 million in annual revenue. Between 1998 and 2000, he founded and led Prime Med Pharmacy Services, Inc., a pharmacy managed care company with locations in 11 states.
Recognizing the growing needs of Southern California's High Desert region in the early 1990s, Dr. Reddy built Desert Valley Hospital in 1994. The hospital received accreditation with commendation in its first year and has since become the flagship of Prime Healthcare's network, which includes award-winning hospitals and outpatient locations nationwide. Prime Healthcare has been recognized as a “Top 15 Health System” in the nation by Truven Health Analytics three times.
After selling Desert Valley Hospital to pursue other ventures, Dr. Reddy repurchased the struggling hospital, rescuing it from bankruptcy. His mission to save and transform struggling hospitals across the country is encapsulated in Prime Healthcare’s motto: “Saving Hospitals, Saving Jobs, Saving Lives.”
